Mock test: A teacher to your mistakes
Many students, as soon as they enter into January, they start having lots of confusions.
- Should I study for practicals and boards or for an upcoming competitive exam?!
- How many mocks am I supposed to take? First of all, are mock tests necessary?
-If I am taking mock tests, how am I supposed to manage my time?
-What is the use of taking mock tests?
-No matter how many mock tests I take I am committing repeated mistakes :(
These are a few thoughts students usually have when they're left with very less time with upcoming board exams and competitive exams.
First of all, what are mock tests? Mock tests are the test based on an estimation of what you might face in real exam (read carefully, MIGHT face, I didn't say you WILL face the same questions). So, yeah if you see in this context, mock tests
- let you know what exam feels like
-what it feels like to sit under pressure for 3 hrs Lol...not applicable for everyone though
-TIME MANAGEMENT
-Mock tests highlight your weak areas
-These give you practice and CONFIDENCE
Let me tell you a short story. It was when JEE mains was a pen-paper test. Let it be some XYZ person as I don't want to take her name. She's a born prodigy, trust me! So yeah, the exam started but due to some blunder, the papers weren't given at right time. 1st thing which made her sweat. Her confidence levels dropped. And when that happens fear crept up her mind. She wasn't able to get the right answers because of this. Let me tell you why this happened. Lack of practice. No time management. No confidence.
Where do you get all these from?-Mock tests.
Here are a few guidelines-
Before taking mock tests:
-Try to be clear on your concepts
-whatever you are not clear with, note down the topic name and leave it there. Concentrate on the chapters you know.
- Be confident enough..this is JUST a mock test
-I said to be confident, but I didn't say be careless, so hope you got the difference
-Don't run behind marks, right now, for you important point is to master the concepts
-Boost yourself up, don't make yourself tired sitting whole day and night for a mock test
During the mock test:
- DO NOT try various methods, like say for example in one neet mock I'll attend bio first and in next, I'll attempt chemistry first. NO. DO NOT COMMIT THIS MISTAKE. Fix your self. Follow a pattern. Get used to following the pattern. So, in the final exam, you should be able to complete your paper within the given time
-Practice marking the OMR. Even there follow one single patten and practice the same.
-Be cool. It's not the end of your life
- Don't think about marks during the examination
-TUNE YOUR MIND, do not let it divert.
After the mock:
-Relax
-relax
-relax for a while
- you remember I told you to note down the concepts which you had not touched or wasn't clear with it? Study those concepts first. Master them
- Then, open your mock booklet
- check the answer key and mark the questions which you've gone wrong. Just mark.
- Now, concentrate on the rest of the questions you did right.
-even you know that there are four options. One is correct. What about the rest three? What those rest of the options mean? Make a habit of framing a question or knowing of what other 3 options mean
- Now, move on to your mistakes
- recognise them
- highlight them
Read once twice thrice
but read
- Rectify your mistakes
- discuss with faculties at school or tuition
Do these. See how your score will improve. How your confidence boosts up, the saying practice makes a man perfect is absolutely right.
